If you place the camera too close to the walls, several issues may arise involving your floor plans, virtual tours (panoramas) and still photos.
Here are some potential issues:
Incomplete coverage: When a camera is positioned very close to a wall, it restricts the field of view and can result in incomplete coverage of the room or space being scanned. This leads to missing details and gaps in the resulting virtual tour or floor plan.
Distortion and perspective issues: Placing the camera too close to walls can introduce distortion and perspective problems in the captured images. This can lead to warped or skewed representations of the space.
Blurry areas on panoramas and still photos: When the camera is positioned too close to the walls (if facing walls), it may have difficulty focusing properly, leading to blurred or out-of-focus areas in the captured scans (panoramas) and still photos. It can also sometimes cause light reflections, shadows, or other obstructions that affect the image quality. If you are capturing still images, placing the camera close to the wall is absolutely fine as long as the lens is facing the open space.
Best Practices ✅
For Scans:
Aim to place the camera at least 1 meter away from the walls
In smaller rooms, where it is not possible to maintain the 1m distance, try to place the camera in the middle of a room as much as possible
In smaller rooms where maintaining a 1-meter distance is not an option, try to position the camera in the middle of the room as much as possible
Camera placement when 1m distance from the walls IS possible:
🟢 Green circles: Ideal camera positions; 🔴 Red circles: Avoid these spots
Camera placement when 1m distance from the walls is NOT possible:
In some cases, take more than 1 scan (panorama)
🟢 Green circles: Ideal camera positions; 🔴 Red circles: Avoid these spots
For still photos:
Place the camera at least 1 meter away from the wall when it's facing it
In smaller rooms, where it is not possible to maintain the 1m distance, try to place the camera as far from the wall as possible
