With the Giraffe360 PRO Cam, you can now choose between Single Scan and Double Scan modes, giving you full flexibility depending on your goals – whether that’s a fast capture for floorplans and virtual tours, or detailed scanning for Gaussian Splat (drone and cinematic) videos.

Both modes follow the same setup and scanning principles but differ in capture cadence, scan spacing, and output type.

Selecting Scan Mode

When you press Scan, you’ll enter the Scan View screen. From there, you can select:

  • Single Scan → Faster capture for floorplans and virtual tours

  • Double Scan → Higher detail for cinematic and drone videos (Gaussian Splats)

You can freely mix both modes within the same project.

Main Outputs

Single Scan Mode

Fast scanning

Virtual Tours, Floorplans, Tour videos

Double Scan Mode

Detailed capture for high-quality visuals

Virtual Tours,Tour videos, Floorplans & Gaussian Splat (Drone & Cinematic) Videos

Single Scan Mode

Use Single Scan Mode when you want to capture quickly for Virtual Tours, Tour Videos, and Floorplans.

This mode is ideal for full property coverage when Gaussian Splat video quality is not required.

Key Features

  • ⚡ Faster capture (~60 seconds per scan)

  • 🏠 Generates Virtual Tours, Tour Videos, and Floorplans

  • 🧭 Suitable for all property areas

  • ❌ Does not generate high-quality Gaussian Splat videos

Recommended Spacing

  • Every 3–5 meters (10–16 ft)

  • 1–2 scans per room

  • Try to place the camera in the centre of the room when possible (not in doorways)

  • Always keep the tripod on level ground (avoid furniture or stairs)

When to Use Single Scan Mode

  • Outdoors

  • Low-clearance spaces (<1.5 m)

  • Utility or technical rooms, garages, wardrobes, WCs

  • Areas not required in Gaussian Splat videos

  • For faster property capture

Double Scan Mode

Use Double Scan Mode when you want the highest-quality detail and coverage for Gaussian Splat (drone and cinematic) videos.

This mode captures two scans (top and bottom) to produce richer spatial data and smoother transitions between viewpoints.

Key Features

  • 🎬 High-detail capture (~90 seconds per scan)

  • 🧱 Generates Virtual Tours, Floorplans & Gaussian Splat Videos

  • 🌍 Can be used indoors or outdoors

💡Note: Outdoor scans won’t appear in Gaussian Splat videos but will still appear in tours and tour videos

Recommended Spacing

  • Capture every 1.5–2 meters (5–6.5 ft)

  • In tight spaces, take scans closer together

  • Capture from each corner of rooms (approx. 50 cm from the corner)

  • Follow a zig-zag pattern in hallways for full coverage

Best Practices

  • Turn all main lights on before starting and keep them on for consistency

  • Keep the camera level and stable — no movement, tilting, or rotation during capture

  • Keep doors and furniture unchanged throughout the scan

  • Decide before scanning which doors will stay open or closed

  • Scan only full floors, not intermediate stairs or landings

When to Use Double Scan Mode

  • For Gaussian Splat (drone and cinematic) videos

  • For high-quality interior scanning

  • In connected or open-plan spaces for seamless flythroughs

  • For showcase properties or marketing visuals

💡 Note: The entire property can be scanned using Double Scans.

This ensures consistent height and seamless coverage, but will take longer overall.

Combining Single and Double Scans

You can freely mix Single and Double Scans within the same property.

Recommended Approach

  • Use Double Scans for key interior rooms where cinematic quality matters

  • Use Single Scans for secondary spaces or where Gaussian Splats aren’t needed

  • All scans will still contribute to the Virtual Tour and Floorplan

How It Affects Output

  • All scans (Single & Double) are currently included in the Gaussian Splat video by default

  • After videos are generated, you have some editing flexibility in the built-in video editors:

    • Drone videos: You can crop the start and end

    • Cinematic videos: You can adjust or reorder scenes, as long as there are enough captured areas

    • There are four cinematic video templates available to choose from

  • Within the Virtual Tour editor, you can hide or remove specific panoramas (scans) – giving you full control over which views appear in your final Virtual Tour

  • In the Tour Video editor, you can adjust, remove, or rearrange scenes, giving you full creative control over the final video output

✅ You can also create extra Single Scans within Double Scan areas. If you want to maintain a consistent scan height or add panoramas that you can later choose to show or hide in the Virtual Tour.

Processing Differences

Both scan types process at the same overall speed but handle data differently:

  • Single Scan Mode
After the capture, you’ll see a short processing screen while the data is prepared for preview.

  • Double Scan Mode
The camera processes the top scan in the background during the bottom scan.
Once both are complete, the ScanView preview appears almost instantly.
