Floor plans come in various file types files. As per standard, clients can choose .png or .jpg files, but there’s also an option to get .svg and a .dxf files.

Here’s a little more info about these file types:

SVG

SVG files contain several layers, which correspond to what we see in png and jpg floor plan files – structural elements and objects, windows and doors, room colours, room names and areas. SVG files are compatible with most common vector graphics applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw and Inkscape.

In the SVG file, you can edit furniture and colours and make other visual tweaks and adjustments to your liking. It won’t be the best for determining precise measurements, because the architectural elements have been adjusted to be more visually pleasing, e.g. straightened walls.

DXF

DXF files are a 2D file format for any CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, DWG FastView, LibreCAD, nanoCAD, FreeCAD, and others). If you only want to view the file, not edit it, then the DXF can also be opened in Adobe Illustrator.

The DXF file is suitable for when you need precise measurements, such as for planning a remodel of an apartment, since the file represents the floor plan as accurately as possible without adjustments for visual appeal. The DXF file represents the floor plan in a 1:1 scale, where 1 unit equals 1 cm by default. However, you can adjust this measurement to your preference within your CAD software.

Additionally, please be aware that DXF files do not currently provide height information and are not designed for representing 3D objects or spaces.

Note: Dxf and .svg files are only available as an add-on. Contact your account manager to find out more.
