Floor Plan Editor: Changing Room Name and Type

Learn how to update the room type and edit room name in floor plans to reflect the correct purpose of a space

Written by Elza Kreslina

Release Date: April 20, 2026

When should you use this feature?

  • The room purpose is incorrect

e.g. The room is labeled Living Room, but it should be Bedroom

  • You want to add a more specific custom name

e.g. You selected Bedroom, but want to rename it to: Master Bedroom; Guest Room; Bedroom 2

How to edit room type

  1. Click the menu button "..." on the floor plan card

  2. Select "Edit"

  3. Open the room dropdown from the sidebar

    • Clicking a room label on the layout will open the corresponding dropdown

    • Inline editing on the layout is no longer necessary

  4. To change the room type:

    • Click the pencil icon

    • Select the correct value from the dropdown

  5. To add a custom name:

    • Click “Add custom name”

    • Make sure the correct room type is selected

    • Enter the name of your choice

    • The custom name will appear on the layout

  6. When the dropdown is closed:

    • The room type is shown in bold

    • The custom name (if added) is shown in grey

  7. Click “Save & Close” to apply your changes

  8. After saving the project:

    • You will see suggestions for custom names based on previous use (for the same room type)

Why did we add this feature?

  1. Increase consistency of the room types data across the project (Property details, property description, video editor, etc.)

  2. This will also help us improve our data in the future, as users will be able to define the purpose (type) of the room before assigning it a custom text value.
